Structural Packaging Designer
Enlisted Design is seeking a Structural Packaging Designer to join our award-winning group of creative minds. Our studio has been based out of Oakland since its beginning in 2008. We are a tight-knit, hard-working team, in a dog-friendly office.
This role would provide vision, exploration, implementation, and support for our packaging programs, in the consumer lifestyle and tech space. The structural packaging designer would report to the Design Director.
Core Responsibilities and Capabilities:
Understand and track design trends and identify areas of opportunity to expand and stretch conventional approaches
Ability to absorb user needs, technical limitations, mechanical engineering, and client business objectives into design considerations
Strategic thinking and exploration around the unboxing experience, that surprises and delights the consumer, while keeping in mind client budget and requirements
A thorough understanding of design principles and priorities
Cross-discipline collaboration (strategy, visual & industrial design) to create ‘seamless’ product packaging
Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines on tight timelines using strong time management and organization skills
Coordinate with 3rd party vendors to help define and spec materials and processes used in fabrication and assembly
Strong visual presentation skills with ability to verbally pitch, ideate, and review with internal and external client teams
Exhibit an uncanny eye for detail and maintain high standards throughout the design process
Iterative prototyping: process ranges from quick hand mockups, to CNC/3D printed, to coordinating cosmetic models with vendors
A proactive attitude and team-oriented approach to client projects and studio culture
2+ years relevant experience in industrial or packaging design
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Packaging Design, Industrial Design or Visual Design (or equivalent)
3D modeling skills—preferably Rhino and/or Solidworks
Confidence with 2D and 3D design visualization tools (e.g. Adobe suite, Keyshot)
Experience with various consumer packaging materials and processes, including folded/wrapped/laminated materials (e.g cardstock, corrugated cardboard, grayboard), formed/molded materials (e.g. pulp, PS), and non-conventional materials (e.g. textiles, magnets)
Quick thinking and strong problem solving skills
Qualifications that are not required, but will strengthen candidacy:
2+ of relevant experience working in a creative agency or client-side
